Fencing in Melton, Victoria

We are about 13km from our base in Hillside, which means a quick site visit, a written quote within 48 hours, and a start date we keep.

The old township: replacement work

Melton proper has been there a long time, and the older streets have housing going back to the 1970s and 80s. Fences there are often on their second life already — timber that has been patched, re-palinged and propped over the years until there is not much sound frame left. These jobs are almost always a full replacement, and often the posts have to come out of ground that has had forty years to settle hard around them.

The new estates: first fences

Out the other side, estates like Atherstone, Arnolds Creek and the newer releases are still going in. That work is the opposite problem: bare blocks, no existing fence, cut-and-fill sites where one side sits lower than the other, and builder's temporary fencing still up. Here it is about getting the boundary right the first time and, where there is fall, deciding between a stepped fence and a retaining wall.

Reactive soil out west

The ground through Melton is more reactive than it is closer to Hillside — it moves with the wet and the dry. That is hard on a fence: posts that were not dug deep enough will heave and lean within a couple of seasons. We set posts deeper here for that reason. It is not the cheapest way to build a fence, but it is the reason ours are still straight when we drive past them.

The jobs we do most in Melton

  • Full replacement of old township timber fencing, including stubborn old posts
  • First fences on new estate blocks in Atherstone, Arnolds Creek and nearby releases
  • Colorbond boundary fences, 1.5m to 2.4m
  • Retaining walls with fencing above on cut-and-fill blocks
  • Steel-framed gates and wider driveway openings

How we quote

We come out, measure, check the levels and the access, and put a written price in front of you — usually within 48 hours. There is no call-out fee for the visit and no obligation once you have the quote. Materials, removal of the old fence and rubbish are all itemised, so the quoted price is the price you pay.

Questions

Fencing in Melton — common questions

How much does fencing cost in Melton?

As a guide, $90–$180 per linear metre for Colorbond and $75–$130 per metre for treated pine paling, supplied and installed. Older township properties sometimes cost more to strip out, and cut-and-fill estate blocks that need retaining are priced separately.

Do you fence new estate blocks before landscaping?

Yes, and it is usually the right order. Getting the boundary in first gives you a defined block to landscape against, and access is far easier before the yard is finished.

The ground here moves. Will my fence stay straight?

That is exactly why we dig deeper and concrete every post in Melton. Reactive soil is what lifts and leans a shallow-footed fence within a couple of seasons. It is the single biggest difference between a fence that lasts and one that does not.

Do you take the old fence away?

Yes. Removal and disposal is itemised in the quote and everything leaves with us, including old concrete footings.

Who pays for a fence between two properties?

Under the Victorian Fences Act 1968 neighbours generally share the cost of a sufficient dividing fence equally. On a new estate block where neither side is fenced yet, that conversation is usually easier to have early.

Do you cover Melton South and the surrounding estates?

Yes — Melton, Melton South, Rockbank, Aintree, Deanside and Plumpton, with no call-out fee.
