Plenty of the original timber paling fencing is still standing, but at thirty-plus years it is well past its service life — palings splitting along the grain, rails pulling away from posts, and the bottom of the posts gone soft. When a fence that old comes down in a windy week, it usually comes down in sections rather than panels.
